“FINDING THE EXTRAORDINARY IN THE ORDINARY”

Bio

Marie Laforge is a French-born artist working across photography and collage, finding beauty, humor, and meaning in the everyday. Raised in the French Alps in a family immersed in art and music, she developed an early sense of wonder for both the natural world and human creativity.

Her photography focuses on capturing the extraordinary in the ordinary—waves, light, textures, and fleeting moments that often go unnoticed. Favoring simplicity, she now works primarily with her iPhone, embracing its limitations as a creative challenge and a tool for experimentation.

Her collage practice began as a teenager with walls covered in magazine cut-outs and has since evolved into witty, whimsical works that often feature women and hidden messages. Using vintage magazines and found images, she transforms overlooked fragments into new stories, recycling the past into playful yet thought-provoking art.

Most recently, she has been creating hundreds of small collages on Pantone postcards, a long-term project she plans to grow into an exhibition of 1000 works, with the goal of auctioning them for charity.

Through both her lens and her scissors, Laforge invites viewers to slow down, look closer, and find joy in unexpected places.

Artist Statement

For me, collage is a meditative process—a way to slow down, explore, and tell visual stories through layers of texture, color, and imagery. By upcycling found materials, I transform the discarded into something new, making collage an eco-conscious art form that embraces spontaneity and reinvention.

Inspired by nature, history, and the beauty of imperfection, I carefully curate each piece to evoke emotion and invite others to see the world differently. Whether creating custom artwork or editorial illustrations, I bring originality and sustainability to every project—one collage at a time.
