Transforming Chairs, Changing Lives – The Second Annual “CHAIRity” Event

Several years ago, I embarked on an inspiring journey that has evolved into an annual event close to my heart: the “CHAIRity” auction. The concept is simple yet powerful—community members, artists, and students come together to upcycle ordinary chairs into extraordinary works of art. The auctioned pieces serve a dual purpose: showcasing creativity while raising funds to support local children in need through Kids Needs of Englewood.

Upcycling for a Cause

CHAIRity is more than just an art event; it represents a collective effort to uplift our local community. Each participant starts with a humble chair, using their creativity and skills to transform it into a unique piece of art. The process encourages sustainability through upcycling, showing that discarded items can be given new life and purpose.

The registration process is straightforward, allowing everyone—from seasoned artists to students with a knack for creativity (and anyone in between)—to participate without any entry fee. By engaging our local talent, we create a diverse array of chair designs, each telling a story and reflecting the artist’s vision.

The Magic of Community

The most heartwarming aspect of the CHAIRity event is witnessing the community come together. Last year, participants of all ages showcased their chairs, each decorated with passion, love, and often, a personal touch. The vibrant colors and unique designs filled the Englewood Art Center, drawing in art enthusiasts and families alike.

Each year, we host a drop-off day where everyone can bring their chairs to the art center, share their creative journey, and connect with others who share a love for art and community service. The environment buzzes with excitement, with artists chatting about their inspirations and families admiring the creative process.

Auction Day Bliss

The event culminates in an exciting auction day filled with anticipation. Attendees bid on their favorite pieces, and the energy is palpable. Knowing that each bid goes towards helping children in our community makes the event even more significant.

Last year’s auction raised significant funds for Kids Needs of Englewood, which directly supports local families facing challenging times. The joy of contributing to a meaningful cause while enjoying art is what makes CHAIRity a treasured event.
